J AND H: ORIGINAL CONCEPTS

ERIC (By Shaun Tan)

'Eric' is a short story written and illustrated by Shaun Tan. It's about a tiny foreign exchange student who comes to live with a family for a week. He's very inquisitive and spends his time with the family exploring local places and everyday occurrences.

Each illustration is hand drawn in lead pencil and graphite and usually depicts little Eric exploring and partaking in things such as watching a movie or hiding in a tea cup.

DOGS: BULLETS AND CARNAGE (by Shirow Miwa)

'Dogs: Bullets and Carnage' is a manga series set in Europe, written and illustrated by Shirow Miwa. Like most manga series, it's drawn and inked by hand with no colouring. Although, unlike most manga series, it's panel layouts are minimalistic and spaced out, usually with the odd 'BOOM' sound effect to fill the dark spaces in between each panel.

There also isn't a lot of dialogue in most of the story panels, letting the drawings and heavy ink work do the talking.
